The Inaugural Season of our new Chamber Music Series gets under way with an exciting and eclectic cornucopia of offerings performed by CHSO musicians who are also Faculty members at Apple Tree Arts! Flutist Amy Carroll, Cellist Mario Portev, Violinists Michael Galvin and Kathryn Haddad join Paul Surapine in music of Villa-Lobos, Brahms, Hummel and more to launch this new collaborative project!
The String Principals of The CHSO bring their virtuoso talents together for an elegant evening of Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn and more, joined by CHSO Founder and Director Paul Surapine on Clarinet for a performance of the Brahms Quintet. Concertmaster Angel Valchinov, performing on his Strad, with Principal Second Violinist Etleva Hima-Buli, Principal Violist Dimitar Petkov and Principal Cellist, Johann Soults.
CHSO Woodwind performers Flautist Lori Halt, Oboist Geraldine Johnson, Bassoonist Patty Yee and Neil Godwin on Horn join Paul Surapine for a rollicking evening of rarely heard masterworks from the Woodwind Quintet repertoire, including the Nielsen Quintet, Samuel Barber’s eloquent “Summer Music” and music by Milhaud, Ibert and more.
CHSO Founder and Director Paul Surapine on clarinet, brings together a showcase of great music for clarinet, piano and other chamber music combinations, featuring his son Zachary on violin, his sister Beth on piano and a line-up of great friends from the CHSO. Music of Bach, Brahms, Milhaud, Khachaturian, Rachmaninoff and more.
The Roaring dukes of Swing will hit the stage with a high energy program featuring great hits of the swing and modern jazz era. Featuring Todd Brunel on clarinets, Dan Fox on Trombone, Michael Shea keyboard, Akili Jamal Haynes on double bass and Alivin Terry on drums.
Brass Venture, featuring many of the brass Principals of the CHSO, return to the CHSO Alternatives Chamber Series with an energetic and engaging program of great brass quintet music, featuring music of Bach, Monteverdi, Copland, Bernstein and more, with a special performance of “Acadia” – a recent opus by Eric Ewazen, inspired by the beauty and grandeur of Acadia National Park. This piece was premiered by Brass Venture in July 2016 at the Bar Harbor Music Festival.
